The Societies of Adracia
Adracia is a rich, diverse world with an abundance of different cultures and environments. However, some societies have developed more of a name for themselves than others, whether it be due to their military might, sheer size and populace, or even diplomatic influence, to name a few reasons. The six societies that are especially noteworthy are the following:
- Valaris- The Valarian Empire is the largest society known of Adracia. Spanning across miles upon miles of flatland, Valaris is a highly prosperous, quiet, and all around peaceful culture, where everyone is insured a moderately comfortable and carefree life. That is, of course, provided they keep their head down and don't ask questions.
- Marizan- The Marizan Islands are located off the coast of mainland Adracia. Due to the rich mines and the abundance of precious resources found on the island, what was initially a small settlement quickly grew to become the powerful and technologically advanced society that it is today. No one could argue that any society has made more technological advances in such a short amount of time than Marizan. However, with such a quickly growing population and a scarcity of proper farming land, the Marizans have decided that they ought to set their sights on the mainland, and the people that inhabit it.
- Endrik- The hilly lands of Endrik are built around one idea: pythium is power. What started as a lone mine quickly grew to many, as people quickly found out how potent and powerful this mineral was. When combined with other minerals and alloys, it created truly fantastical effects, such as a powerful fertilizer that made plants grow in half the time, or a metallic alloy that could respond to subtle twitches in the muscles, allowing for tools and prosthetics that could be controlled with finesse. This mineral shaped the culture that came to grow in this location. Those who control the Pythium Mines have seemingly unlimited wealth and power, able to hire whole armies of mercenaries as protection, while those who do not have a mine often end up working for a Mine Lord and becoming indebted to them.
- Kareus- Even if you were told where to find the Kareun Clans, there's a good chance you'd still have trouble finding them. That is, of course, unless you happened to look up. The Clans of Kareus have carved a place for themselves in the world by carving their whole land in the mountainsides of the Kolonas Mountains. Each Kareun family has had their residency carved into the sides of these mountains, and connected to each other by long rope bridges. This is done with the help of Deragontil, a species of horse sized dragonflies domesticated by the Kareun people. Each place of residency is connected to the central forge, a place of community and bartering.
- Toraria- Not much has been seen first hand of the City of Toraria, located in the Torarian jungle. Most people can tell you about is the feeling of fear and dread of being chased out of the jungle by dozen of strong and fierce warriors that seemed to come from nowhere as soon as you step into the jungle. Most of what is known about Toraria is questioned, as it is unknown how anyone could get close enough to the city without being hunted. Rumors among the people of Kareus, the one of the cultures located closest to the jungle, is that the city itself has been formed from the trees, which were grown into forms that would suit their needs. There are also rumors that the people of Toraria keep a garden in which you can commune with the dead, and that a sapling could grow to a full tree right before your eyes. However, those stories are quickly dismissed as too outlandish to be possible. Until more proof can be provided, Toraria will remain shrouded in mystery to most of the world.
- Verinoes- Located at the fringe of Endrixian influence, the town of Verinoes would have been fairly unremarkable had it not been for a few details. Firstly, over the years they have accumulated a large library on many different cultures of Adracia, from the most powerful to the more obscure ones. They are the only society at this time that are fully aware of all the societies mentioned above, and have in the past studied their ways and customs in great detail. They also have an uncanny ability grasping different languages, as such an abundance of languages are taught to the people of Verinoes since a young age. For a while, the people have lost much of their desire to explore, and their knowledge of the other cultures soon became outdated and archaic. It wasn't until Mathis, inspired by his Aunt Azriel, started the Adventurer's Guild Novenlosk, that exploring the world of Adracia became a key aspect of Verinoes again.
